Our Logo

St. Mary’s LogoOur logo was also redesigned this year, with our original logo serving as inspiration.  The traditional St. Mary’s School colors, green and gold, remain in our new logo, connecting us with the wonderful sisters, clergy, families and alumni who established our school as a faith-centered learning community over 115 years ago.

In Catholic tradition, the color green represents hope and new life, and in our logo it is representative of the great hope we have in all our students, who bring new life to our future.  Gold, a traditional sign of royalty, reminds us of our connection to Jesus Christ, our King, and his Blessed Mother, Mary, our Patroness and Queen of Heaven.  Gold is also used in the Papal Flag, and serves here as a reminder of our union with the Holy Father in Rome.

The cross serves as a reminder of our Christian faith and the sacrificial love which we have received and are called to bring to the world.  The cross has four “arms,” a reminder of the four Gospels, the Word of the Lord.  The bottom “arm” is in three parts, representing the Blessed Trinity.

In the center of the cross is a red heart.  In Catholic tradition, red reminds us not only of the redemptive sacrifice of our Lord, but also of the presence of the Holy Spirit among us.  If you look very closely at the heart in our logo, you will notice that it is not quite “perfect” - there is a little bump on the left side.  That is because this is our Blessed Mother’s heart, which experienced so much suffering, and bore the unbearable without losing faith or hope.  We pray that she will continue to grace our school with her loving presence, and that her Son will continue as the unseen, yet ever-present teacher in all our classes, the model of our faculty, and the inspiration of our students.

Our Website Banner

Website banner

Our new website banner incorporates elements from our old website, with the new logo and graphics.  The blue backround behind the logo is a nod to our old website's blue color, and is actually from a picture of a sunrise, reminding us of our past as well as the hope each new day brings.  In Catholic tradition, sky blue is used to represent heaven, and is also used in Marian imagery to symbolize the Blessed Mother's cloak wrapping us in her embrace.

SeahawkThe seahawk in our banner comes from our old school logo, and is our school mascot.  They are highly adaptable (like our students), and are found on every continent except Antarctica.  Seahawks share in parenting duties, raising their young together over a five month period, and usually mate for life.

St. Elizabeth Ann SetonThe sisters who established St. Mary’s School belonged to the Sisters of Charity, founded by St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.  The first sisters were Sister Mary Nazaretta Granahan, Sister Mary Gilberta Allen, and Sister Mary Cecilia Gray.

Thomas O'RourkeThe first boy to graduate from St. Mary’s School was Thomas O’Rourke, with honors, in 1903.  The first year a graduation picture was taken was 1906, with only three graduates - Anne Hurley, Rose Clemens, and John Flynn.

Butterfly
The butterfly in our website banner was lovingly raised by Mrs. Maggiacomo's Kindergarten Class of 2007, who are a special inpiration to our website wrangler :-)
