Objectives of St. Mary’s School

• To present through a nine year course in Religion the teachings of the Catholic Church in such a way that the children will grow in the knowledge, understanding and love of their religion.
• To develop in the children an awareness of the dignity of the human person and an understanding of the human bond shared with all people.
• To teach the children to express their love of God by a personal commitment to Him and by an active interest in and concern for the welfare of all people.

• To offer a program of studies that will meet the needs of all students so that each may be given the opportunity to fulfill his or her potential.
• To develop the students’ ability to read selectively, purposefully and critically, and to improve their oral and written expression.

• To instill in the children an appreciation of their American heritage which will inspire a spirit of patriotism.
• To teach the principles of our democratic government, its freedom, rights, and responsibilities.
• To make the student aware of the historical, cultural, and economic background of the nations of the world.

• To teach the basic principles of aesthetic values which foster an appreciation and love of the beautiful.
• To provide opportunities for self-expression in such areas of creativity as art, music, drama and writing.

• To develop strong, well-poised, physically fit bodies through physical education and athletic programs.
• To develop knowledge, understanding and proper attitudes of mental, emotional and bodily health through health instruction.
• To build a sense of self-esteem based on responsibility and self-confidence in order to foster a good self-image.
